Under The Sea Cake Smash

Themed Cake Smashes at my Tonbridge studio
Most photographers have a style that they can describe in a few simple words. I’d describe my work as classic, simple and stylish. This carries through to (most of) my cake smash work too. I like simple, unfussy cake smashes that really show off your baby. However, sometimes, when I’m asked for a themed cake smash, I have to go all out with a design. When Danielle enquired about a cake smash, she was interested in me creating an Under The Sea cake smash for her daughter, Marta. Danielle confessed that since childhood she has collected hundreds of Disney soft toys, and so we were able to combine The Little Mermaid with Finding Nemo for an Under the Sea set up.
So I’d recently bought an aqua coloured backdrop for another Disney cake smash: Moana. Hence all I needed was a couple of rolls of pastel coloured crepe paper and a few little fishes. Then I just added some paper pom poms for the coral and I used a few painted rocks from another recent Disney cake smash: The Lion King. Most of the planning went in to the cake….and for that I have Denise from Cakes Unlimited UK to thank. I’d spotted a few designs that I liked but my favourite one was the one we opted for below with a cute little Nemo on top. Doesn’t it look just too good to smash?!
Little Smasher, Marta
Meet Marta, who smiled her way through the portrait part of her session AND her Under the Sea Cake smash AND the splash in a tub at the end.
Marta’s mummy had brought along a Flounder outfit. I’m not going to lie, I had worries little Marta wouldn’t be able to sit down in it! However, she made no fuss about her outfit and sat there grinning away, playing with her cake. And above all, that’s what cake smashes are usually about – messy sensory play!
