Cake Smash Photography – what does it involve?
Cake Smash photography sessions are a fun way to celebrate your baby’s big milestone – their first birthday! We aim to capture some beautiful portraits of your baby on or near their birthday and cake is involved too! Scroll down to view examples of cake smash galleries. These sessions take place at my beautiful studio in Tonbridge, Kent. Before the session, I’ll be in touch to help you design your baby’s special first birthday photoshoot. There’s a huge number of themes or colours to choose from.
The cake smash session is split into 3 mini sessions:
1) First we start with some simple portraits in a nice dress/smart outfit
2) Then it’s the cake-smash part. I have a choice of tutu skirts, dresses and rompers for the girls CLICK HERE FOR GIRL OUTFITS. Plus there’s a variety of outfits for the boys too CLICK HERE FOR BOY OUTFITS. Of course you are welcome to bring your own outfit too.
3) Finally I offer a “tub-time” session for your little one to have a few photographs in a warm bubble bath (and that way they also get to go home clean too!)
So you’ll end up with a range of baby portraits, cake smash images and tub time photos:
Before your session
Once you’ve booked a photo shoot, we plan ahead what your little one will wear. I do have a huge selection of outfits or you may have an outfit from home that you want to bring along for your little one to be photographed in. You may have an idea of a theme you’d like me to work towards or just simply a colour scheme that you love. With an outfit and theme picked out, we can then select a cake to match. Very often clients choose a large cupcake. However, we can discuss an alternative that would work with a themed smash. Click HERE FOR CAKE INSPIRATION.
I have a great many little props that I can use at your baby’s session including little chairs, stools and crates. Plus there’s some accessories such as letters spelling ONE or some cute little fabric number 1s. In addition, I have a huge selection of backdrop colours to choose from.
Cost
My cake smash sessions cost £100. This includes a cake from a local professional cake maker Cakes Unlimited UK for a beautiful giant cupcake. However, I’m happy for you to provide your own cake which reduces the session fee to £65.
You have full use of any of my props, backdrops and beautiful cake smash outfits. In addition, you can also bring your own clothes too and decide at the session what you want your little one to wear. The only props I don’t provide are balloons – if you would like these included in the set-up, I just ask that you provide these yourself.
The session fee doesn’t include any digital images. Your images will be edited approximately 1-2 weeks after your session and you will be sent a link to view the gallery online. You can then purchase one of three different digital image packages:

Further pricing of wall art and prints are available on request. The session fee is required to secure a booking – but no further payment for the digital image packages is required until you have viewed your gallery.

Environmentally Friendly Printed Backdrops
I try really hard to ensure my cake smash set ups are as environmentally friendly as possible, always opting for decor that I can re-use and I try to avoid the use of balloons. These printed backdrop options are great for achieving an eco-friendly cake smash, whilst still providing a stunning look for your baby’s first birthday images.
