First Birthday Cake Smash Fun!

Kent Cake Smash Photographer

Since opening the studio back up post lockdown number 3, I’ve had so many first birthday cake smash photoshoots! And oh boy, have we had fun?! I’ve been amazed at how many clients are travelling from further afield and all over Kent to visit my Tonbridge photography studio. Clients are telling me they’ve chosen me as a cake smash photographer for my fun and creative cake smash designs. What they love the most is that all the preparation is catered for – I create and design the set up in discussion with you. Plus, there’s no clearing up afterwards, as I take care of all the mess afterwards!

I thought I’d show case some of most recent cake smash work since reopening….

Aeroplane Cake Smash

First up, adorable Charlie visited the studio with his big sister, Rosie, to celebrate turning one. As is very often the case, his mum had drawn inspiration from Pinterest and had seen a particular image taken by an cake smash photographer in the US. This cake smash had gorgeous little aeroplanes in the backdrop and fluffy white clouds.

I was confident I could replicate it and set about searching for some decal plane stickers. However, I wasn’t able to find something I liked, so I ended up painting my own aeroplanes to hang up in the backdrop. And I also bought a little pilot’s cap ….Charlie wasn’t too keen on the cap but I managed one shot of him in it!

Spring theme cake smash

Little Liesel’s mummy and daddy had seen a Vintage Cake Smash session that I’d photographed last year and loved the idea of recreating this. But they also wanted to incorporate some daffodils in to her first birthday cake smash session being a Spring baby. And so we discussed keeping the colours to creams and yellows.

As the date drew nearer I was getting increasingly nervous as the daffodils were going out of season by the time my studio was allowed to reopen, but I managed to keep a fresh bunch alive to place in the set up. And Liesel brought along all her favourite teddies.

This little girl had a huge character and I thoroughly enjoyed capturing all her many expressions!

Pink & Grey Cake Smash

Next up, I had the twins, Ava and Grace, return (they previously had a twin cake smash) with their 1 year old sister. The parents wanted the same set up that they’d chosen for the twins a few years ago. A simple, grey backdrop with pink bunting, pink pom poms and pink tutu!

A whole lot of fun was had at this first birthday cake smash with the big sister joining in too!

Wild One Cake Smash

And here’s little Josh, who’s mummy chose a Wild One cake smash to match his Wild One themed birthday party! They brought along their tee-pee and Josh’s cute little forest green outfit. I selected a soft pale backdrop and bought a Wild One banner for the backdrop. Plus I found a wonderful little Wild One Crown from Etsy seller Hazy Days Creations.

As always, I request a cake from my cake maker Denise at Cakes Unlimited UK and she delivers EVERY single time – this cake was beautiful and delicious. Josh certainly thought so as he actually chomped his way through a big wedge of cake. Josh’s big brother, William, joined in for a bit of cake munching too!

Pink Floral Cake Smash

Little Molly had a simple pink floral cake smash set up which looked super adorable. It was a set up that her big sister had also had for her onw cake smash a few years ago and she wore the same cute pink romper. Molly (and her sister) enjoyed chomping through the cake! She wasn’t so keen on the bath tub session – she didn’t want to be in the water – so we resorted to her just sitting in an empty tub which she was more than happy with!

Music Cake Smash

Beautiful Swara visited the studio for her cake smash with the most stunning red party dress! Prior to her visit, her mummy had requested that I design a music theme cake smash for two reasons: 1) Swara’s name means “music” and 2) she adores music being played to her. Her parents had brought along a beautiful black stool size mini piano which looked wonderful in her set up.

All these lockdown babies have certainly enjoyed celebrating at their first birthday cake smash photoshoots. If you’d like your baby to have just as much fun and a beautiful set of portraits, do get in touch. You can see more of my cake smash work for inspiration over on my Cake Smash Sessions page.
