Rainbow Baby Cake Smash

Also Fit For A King!

When his mummy enquired about a cake smash for Harry’s 1st birthday celebrations, she asked if it was possible to have 2 themes! Mum wanted a rainbow baby cake smash theme for her rainbow baby, Harry. And in addition, mum told me that his nickname has always been “King”. Therefore, she wanted to incorporate this in to his shoot as well.

I felt it might be a bit too jumbled to include both “king” and “rainbow” themes to the whole cake smash session. So I suggested that Harry dress as a King for the portrait part of the session (before the cake is brought out). And the rest of the session would fit with the rainbow baby cake smash theme!

The set up & cake

I got my sewing machine out to create a cape fit for a king and Mum brought along a sceptre and crown. At the Sarah Hart Photography studio I have a selection of chairs for little chairs. I thought my “Louis” style chair fitted the bill as a crown for King Harry and therefore selected a cream backdrop to match.

For the cake smash part, I decorated my backdrop with rainbow chevron bunting and put some ideas to my cake maker for the cake. And this what Denise from Cakes Unlimited UK created for Harry’s rainbow baby cake smash! Even Harry looks amazed!

The main cake was covered in buttercream (making it a perfect messy cake smash option!). The rainbow was created with fondant icing which Harry enjoyed chomping on!

Splash time!

Harry loved his rainbow baby cake smash. Similarly, he continued giggling through his tub time too. Cake smash sessions always have tub time at the end of the session. Babies often love the bubbles and splashes. But Parents also love that their babies go home clean too!
