Boy Cake Smash Ideas
Posted on 6 Apr, 2020 by Sarah Hart
Simple & classic designs or something to stand out from the crowd?
Just because the girls have a huge choice of tutu skirts and dresses in every colour here at Sarah Hart Photography, doesn’t mean the boys are missing out! Over the years, I’ve created a fabulous selection of boy cake smash ideas to include funky little outfits, unique backdrops and some creative themes.
Boy Cake Smash Outfits
I’ve popped a selection of images below for you to see what I have on offer. Mainly consisting of a pants and bow-tie combination, I’ve also got a few hats (though bear in mind that not all little ones will keep a hat on!) and capes.
If none of the above appeal, then you can bring along a cute romper, a set of dungarees, or perhaps just a pair of denim shorts. These clients brought along their own outfits….
Backdrops
Once you have decided on an outfit, this usually helps dictate what colours you may like as your backdrop. I have a selection of different coloured paper backdrops which I will help you to choose from to co-ordinate with the outfit. I also have a collection of bunting and paper pom poms to help accessorise the set, though I always advise less is more. We don’t want to detract from your baby’s gorgeous face! I’m also not a fan of using balloons……if they go pop in the session, they do tend to frighten the life out of everyone and we may not end up with the smiley images that I like to obtain for each client!
Themes
Some clients prefer to start with a theme that they have in mind to base their cake smash on. I will then help design a set up based around a theme you have. Take a look below at some of my previous boy cake smash designs which have been based around a theme.
The Cake
Finally, there’s the cake to choose. I highly recommend purchasing a professional cake to really enhance the images. It’s true, the cake is being smashed up! However, having a beautifully iced cake does make a big difference to the final look of the images. I order all my cakes through Cakes Unlimited UK who will create a beautiful giant cupcake in whatever colours we request to match your set up. Denise, from Cake Unlimited UK, can produce a cake of a different design if you so wish. If instead you prefer to bring your own cake, there are some beautiful cakes available from many supermarkets these days. However, please be aware that if the cake is covered in fondant icing, your baby will find it harder to “smash” and get stuck into than with a cake covered in buttercream icing. Here are just some examples of Denise’s cakes from previous shoots.
I’m always willing to help design a set for a theme or colour scheme you may have in mind. You can see more cake smash images over on my Cake Smash Gallery HERE.
Get in touch if you want to chat over any of your ideas!
