Girly Cake Smash Photo Shoots, Kent Photographer
Posted on 21 Mar, 2018 by Sarah Hart
I do love a cake smash session – they’re pretty unpredictable (you can just never tell whether the 1 year old will love or hate the cake!) but they are so very FUN!
The parents of daughters have it easy when it comes to booking a 1st birthday Cake Smash at Sarah Hart Photography. My Tonbridge studio houses a gorgeous collection of outfits with a wide range of tutu dresses and skirts to choose from:
Some mums do explain to me that frilly dresses aren’t their thing, so, as well as being very welcome to bring along your own outfit, I also have a small collection of rompers like these :
Once the outfit has been chosen, this usually helps dictate what colours we can use as a backdrop (I have a selection of different coloured paper backdrops) which I will help you to choose from to co-ordinate with the outfit. There’s also a selection of bunting, rag garlands, paper flowers and pom poms to help accessorise the set (though I always advise less is more. We don’t want to detract from your baby’s gorgeous face!) I’m also not a fan of using balloons……if they go pop in the session, they do tend to frighten the life out of everyone and we may not end up with the smiley images that I like to obtain for each client!
Headbands (not to everyone’s cup of tea) are on offer for those who really want to push the girly theme – though once again you are welcome to bring hair clips or head bands with you (some babies will not keep them in, but others don’t seem to mind) This mum bought a beautiful crown for her daughter to wear…..and she did keep it on the whole session as the cake was enough of a distraction to what was on her head!
You can pick out a theme if there’s something that’s has meaning to you and your family and I’ll help plan a set around the theme. This client loved everything Woodland and foxes so we dressed her in a fox outfit (one of my collections to choose from) and I designed and made a Woodland banner and asked a local company, Woolly Pebbles, to create a some toadstools for the set:
And finally, there’s the cake to choose. I recommend purchasing a professional cake to really enhance the images. Yes, the cake is being smashed up, but having a beautifully iced cake does make a big difference to the final look of the images. I can offer this service through Cakes Unlimited UK who will create a beautiful giant cupcake in whatever colours we request to match your set up. Denise, from Cake Unlimited UK, can produce a cake of a different design if you so wish. If instead you prefer to bring your own cake, there are some beautiful cakes available from many supermarkets these days. However, please be aware that if the cake is covered in fondant icing, your baby will find it harder to “smash” and get stuck into than with a cake covered in buttercream icing.
Here are a few of Denise’s girly cupcakes over the last few years:
I can offer cake smashes for twins or for two little 1 year old friends of the same age and even accommodate older siblings joining in for some of the cake smash:
I’m always willing to help design a set for a theme or colour scheme you may have in mind. And if you are completely against it being a “girly” cake smash, you may find some inspiration HERE on my pinterest Boys Cake Smash Ideas (they’ll be a blog for Boy’s cake smashes shortly!)
