Occasion wear photoshoot for Violet & Bean

Posted on 26 Jun, 2018 by Sarah Hart

Approached for an occasion wear photoshoot..

A few months ago I was asked to shoot a selection of dresses and outfits made by local mum and business owner of Violet & Bean, Carley. Violet and Bean, based in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, hand make bespoke special occasion wear, from bridesmaid/flower girl dresses and Paige boy outfits to party outfits.

Having never met each other before, I was a little nervous the night before the shoot – newborn and baby photography is my niche area. And, I’ve only done the occasional commercial shoot for a company. However, I needn’t have worried, Carley was such a lovely, warm person and her dresses were simply stunning to photograph. And she’d also done an awesome job of selecting very lovely kids to model for us – they were delightful and made the whole experience really enjoyable. Violet and Bean also teamed up with Lily and Rose Silk Flowers by Heather who makes wonderful headpieces, bouquets and button holes. Heather had created some lovely pieces for us to use with the outfits – they finished off each outfit beautifully.

The Dresses

Amelia started off the shoot and wore her own white leotard with Violet and Beans “Cloud” fluffy tutu skirt. Made from layers of soft tulle, I encouraged Amelia to twirl and dance in front of the camera.

Next up was the “Ella” dress – named after this gorgeous model Ella! Made using a quality satin fabric, it features a jewel sash and pleated skirt. It’s perfect as a bridesmaid dress or to wear at a Holy Communion.

Then we photographed a little trio of a wedding party. This part of the photoshoot really showed off Violet & Bean’s selection of occasion wear. Little Winnie wore “Ember”, a beautiful flowergirl dress made from Duchess satin and a tulle net skirt.  Lovely Lottie wore a matching bridesmaid dress – similar in style to the Ember dress but featuring a heart shaped back. And finally handsome Henry wore a matching Paige boy outfit. The button hole and bouquets were designed by Lily and Rose Silk Flowers by Heather and looked so realistic.

Over the last few months I’ve seen Violet and Bean’s Facebook posts popping up on my newsfeed. And it’s clear to see how much passion and love goes in to making these dresses. Plus, they doesn’t just make occasion wear. Carley’s everyday and party wear dresses and skirts can be made from pretty much any fabric design that takes your fancy. You can see some of her designs here: https://www.violetandbean.co.uk/fabrics. With this recent rise in temperature the cotton skirts and dresses are perfect for keeping you little ones cool and comfortable this summer!
